How Emplifyr Automated Workforce Training Delivery From Scratch

Emplifyr needed a platform that unified training creation, delivery, and tracking into one admin dashboard. easy.bi built it from concept to production - extending an existing course marketplace into a full automation engine.

The Challenge: Manual Training at Scale Doesn't Work

Workforce training in most mid-market organizations follows a familiar pattern: HR creates content in one tool, distributes it via email, tracks completion in a spreadsheet, and reports results in a slide deck. Every step requires manual effort. Every handoff introduces delays.

Emplifyr saw an opportunity to fix this. Their vision was a platform where administrators could create training programs, assign them to employees, automate delivery schedules, and track completion - all from a single dashboard. No spreadsheets. No email chains. No manual follow-ups.

But Emplifyr wasn't starting from zero. easy.bi had previously built the dgree.io course marketplace - a platform that aggregated online courses with ElasticSearch-powered discovery. Emplifyr wanted to extend that foundation into a full training management system with automation, administrative controls, and workforce-level tracking.

The challenge was clear: take the course discovery engine and transform it into an enterprise training delivery platform - without losing the speed and simplicity that made the original marketplace effective.

“Our training process was email-based. HR would send a link, hope people clicked it, and chase completions manually. We needed automation, not reminders in someone's calendar.”

Why Emplifyr Chose easy.bi

Emplifyr chose easy.bi for one decisive reason: the team had already built the underlying course platform. They understood the data model, the search infrastructure, and the authentication layer. Starting with a new partner would have meant months of ramp-up time and architectural re-decisions.

Beyond the technical head start, easy.bi's approach to product development matched Emplifyr's needs. The team works from concept through prototype to production - not just writing code against a spec. For a product that was being defined as it was built, that end-to-end capability was essential.

“easy.bi already understood our data model and infrastructure from the dgree.io project. That saved us at least three months of onboarding a new partner.”

The Approach: From Course Marketplace to Training Automation

easy.bi started by mapping the gap between what existed (a course marketplace) and what Emplifyr needed (a training management platform). The core addition: an admin layer that gave organizations control over what their workforce learned, when, and how progress was tracked.

Admin dashboard for program management. The central interface allowed administrators to create training programs, assign them to individual employees or teams, set deadlines, and configure automated reminders. Built with Angular, the dashboard surfaced the metrics administrators care about: completion rates, overdue assignments, and program effectiveness over time.

Automated delivery workflows. Instead of manually notifying employees about new training, the platform handled it automatically. When an administrator published a program, assigned employees received notifications with direct links. Reminder sequences triggered based on configurable rules - 7 days before deadline, 3 days before, and overdue. No human intervention required.

OAuth2 authentication and role management. The platform used the existing OAuth2-ID-Service to manage user identities. Administrators, managers, and employees each saw different interfaces tailored to their responsibilities. A manager could track their team's progress. An employee saw their assigned programs and completion status. An administrator had full visibility across the organization.

Extension of the existing platform. Rather than rebuilding from scratch, easy.bi extended the ebiPlatform backend that powered the original course marketplace. Course data, user profiles, and search capabilities carried over directly. The new training automation layer sat on top of proven infrastructure.

“The team didn't just build what we asked for - they helped us define what the platform should be. From concept to prototype to production, it was a true product partnership.”

The Results: Training Administration in Hours, Not Weeks

Emplifyr launched with a platform that reduced training administration from a multi-week manual process to a few hours of setup. Administrators create a program once, assign it to the relevant groups, and the platform handles delivery, reminders, and tracking automatically.

The admin dashboard gave organizations something they'd never had: real-time visibility into workforce development. Instead of quarterly reports compiled from spreadsheets, managers could see completion rates, identify bottlenecks, and intervene with specific employees - all from one screen.

Because the platform extended the existing course marketplace, Emplifyr customers also benefited from the ElasticSearch-powered course discovery engine. Employees could browse available training beyond their assigned programs, creating a self-directed learning culture alongside structured development.

Key Takeaways

  • Extend proven infrastructure instead of rebuilding. By building on the existing ebiPlatform and course marketplace, Emplifyr launched faster and with fewer risks than a ground-up build would have allowed.
  • Automate the handoffs, not just the content. The biggest time savings came from automated delivery and reminders - the administrative busywork that consumed HR teams, not the training content itself.
  • Role-based views drive adoption. Administrators, managers, and employees each see exactly what they need. No feature bloat, no confusion about what's relevant.
  • Real-time tracking replaces quarterly guesswork. When completion data is live, managers intervene early instead of discovering gaps at the end of the quarter.
